Ahsan Iqbal demands a probe into Parvez Elahi’s alleged audio leak

The former Punjab Chief Minister came in the spotlight after three audio-clips allegedly featuring him went viral on social media on Thursday. PML-N leaders have since then demanded an investigation into the matter.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiative Ahsan Iqbal demanded for investigation of PML-Q leader and former chief minister Punjab Parvez Elahi’s alleged audio leak.

According to the details, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal made the remarks while talking to media representatives in Islamabad. He said Parvez Elahi’s alleged audio leak should be investigated and rule of law is the backbone of society. He said an independent judiciary is essential to the rule of law.

Ahsan Iqbal also said that Imran Khan made false cases against PML-N leadership who had to wait for months for the date of the hearing. He said today the judiciary is independent compared to the past.

Ahsan Iqbal’s call for an investigation echoes Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah who, shortly after the audio surfaced, demanded the forensic test of the alleged leaked audio tape.

“If the former Punjab CM is found guilty after the forensic, then the matter should be presented before the judicial committee,” he remarked.

Rana Sanaullah also said that he had already tasked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest Pervaiz Elahi after the forensic audit of the audio conversation.

Parvez Elahi’s audio leaks

Earlier, the former Punjab Chief Minister came in the spotlight after three audio-clips allegedly featuring him went viral on social media on Thursday in which he could be heard telling his ‘lawyer’ to get a certain judge for hearing the case of his close aide, Muhammad Khan Bhatti.

In the first audio, Elahi could be heard purportedly telling former Lahore High Court Bar President Jehangir A Jhojha to get the case of Muhammad Khan Bhatti before Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and the latter assuring he will try it.

In another audio clip, Elahi is purportedly talking to Abid Shahid Zuberi, President Supreme Court Bar Association, giving him the same instructions and stressing him to do it. “It will be alright. Do not share this with anybody,” former CM can be heard saying.

The lawyer then talks about the case of former CCPO Lahore Ghulam Muhammad Dogar and Elahi says he will talk.

In the third audio, Elahi can be heard purportedly telling the judge over phone that he is coming to his place without protocol and will leave after saying ‘salam’.
