Asia Cup 2022: Babar fumes at Indian umpire

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam expressed his anger and displeasure with Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary.

After accepting Mohammad Rizwan’s request for a DRS review, Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary was criticised by Pakistani captain Babar Azam for his behaviour in an Asia Cup 2022 match. Skipper Babar fumed “I am the captain” in a fit of rage. The event happened during Sri Lanka’s 5 wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4s match. Fans were inconsolable after the incident on social media.

The incident happened during the game’s sixteenth over. Dasun Shanaka was struck by a short, wide delivery from Hasan Ali that landed outside the off stump. The Sri Lankan hitter made every effort to direct the ball back to the keeper of wickets. The ball, however, did not make contact with the bat.

Mohamad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper for Pakistan, leaps forward and tries to persuade the umpire that because he heard a sound, it must be a catch. Anil Chaudhary, the umpire, stands by his judgement to rule it as not out. However, an ecstatic Rizwan requests the DRS, to which the Indian umpire accepts and calls for the third official.

In the meantime, Pakistani captain Babar Azam, who was shocked by what happened, yells “I am the captain” at the India umpire in a fit of rage, and only the captain makes the decision to request a DRS. On the other hand, the third umpire sees a flat line on the outer edge and determines that the ball did not make contact with the bat, upholding Chaudhary’s judgement and costing Pakistan a review.

SriLanka won admirably by five wickets to take the first spot in the Asia Cup 2022 Super Cup points standings. On Sunday, the crucial finals will pit the two teams against one another one more.
