Asia Cup 2022: India needs Afghanistan to defeat Pakistan

The following match of the 2022 Asia Cup will feature a matchup between Pakistan and Afghanistan. On September 7 (Wednesday), the UAE’s Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host the PAK vs. AFG encounter.

Mohammad Nabi will captain Afghanistan and Babar Azam will captain Pakistan in the 2022 Asia Cup. Afghanistan was defeated by Sri Lanka by four wickets in their first game of the super four round. Pakistan, however, overcame India by a margin of five wickets.

Pakistan chose to start the bowling against India. Virat Kohli’s 60-run performance helped India score 181-7 on the board. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul both scored 28 runs. Mohammad Rizwan then hit 71 and Mohammad Nawaz added 42 to help Pakistan win the match by five wickets.

In their opening innings against Sri Lanka, Afghanistan scored 175-6 in 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 84 runs in an outstanding performance. Later, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka scored 35 and 36 respectively. Later, Bhanuka Rajapaksa hit 31 off 14 to aid the squad in a 4-wicket victory.

 

Bringing up head-to-head conflict Pakistan has never defeated Afghanistan in cricket to date. In the Asia Cup thus far, they have faced off in four ODIs, two T2oIs, and two games.

The Indian squad would be praying that Afghanistan gets on the board and defeats Pakistan in its opening T20I matchup, as this will maintain India’s chances of making the tournament final.

India will be eliminated from the Asia Cup 2022 if Pakistan maintains its current record against Afghanistan.
