Ehsanullah Ehsan’s alleged “kill list”: NA Human Rights expresses concern

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights held a recent meeting to discuss the alarming issue of a kill list revealed by former TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan. The kill list includes names of prominent public figures.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights Thursday expressed concern over death threats to a number of public figures. The NA body called for an investigation into the alleged “kill list” by former Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson, Ehsanullah Ehsan.

Shazia Marri, the committee’s chairperson, directed the interior secretary to have an early meeting with senators Farhatullah Babar and Afrasiab Khattak regarding the matter. The names of both the senators are on the hit list.

Human Rights Minister Dr. Shireen Mazari also attended the meeting besides members of the committee. During the meeting, Dr. Shireen Mazari condemned the death threats.

Earlier, UN Rapporteurs and The Guardian mentioned the alleged “kill list.” Ehsanullah Ehsan initially revealed the kill list through a Facebook and Twitter post.

The “kill list” according to Ehsan’s post, included names of Farhatullah Babar, Afrasiab Khattak, Dr. Syed Alam Mehsud, and Mufti Kifayatullah.

Furthermore, Farhatullah Babar explained that Usman Kakar’s name too was on the kill list by Ehsanullah Ehsan. Back in June, ex-senator Usman Kakar died under mysterious circumstances in Quetta.

Farhatullah Babar then said Ehsanullah Ehsan revealed that the kill list included Senator Kakar’s name. A few days later through another tweet, he gave names of other individuals in the list.

“Usman Kakar’s family already alleged foul play and claims that he was murdered. The provincial government formed a judicial commission to probe the matter, but disbanded it after the family declined to appear before it for reasons of trust,” Farhatullah Babar said.

“In view of this background, we are deeply concerned over the hit list as it contains our names too,” he added.
