In an unexpected move Firdous Ashiq Awan decides to resign as SACM

The special assistant to CM Punjab has announced this decision to give an effective response to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party leaders.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab on Information, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has decided to step down from her post.

According to national media sources, Firdous Ashiq Awan will resign from her post to participate in the Sialkot by-election campaign, which she cannot do while holding her current position.

“I will request Prime Minister Imran Khan to accept my resignation,” she reportedly said.

24News reported that the special assistant to Punjab CM Ms. Awan will resign from her post as she wants to take part in the Sialkot by-election in PP-38.

The PP-38 seat fell vacant after the demise of PML (N) MPA Khush Akhtar Subhani, and the by-poll for the seat is scheduled to be held on July 28.

The special assistant has announced this decision to give an effective response to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party leaders.

The PTI awarded ticket to Ahsan Saleem Baryar who is the son of PML-Q Punjab senior vice president Saleem Baryar. Ms. Awan handed over the PTI ticket to Mr. Ahsan Baryar in Islamabad last month, 24 News wrote.

The PML-N has fielded Tariq Subhani, the younger brother of deceased MPA Khush Akhtar Subhani. A total of 18 candidates are contesting in the polls.

She resigned from PPP’s vice presidency in 2015, and On May 30, 2017, she joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

In the 2018 Pakistani general election she lost her seat on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s ticket in NA-72 (Sialkot-I) by obtaining 91,393 votes against Pakistan Muslim League (N)’s Armaghan Subhani who secured 129,041 votes.

She was appointed as Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Information and Broadcasting on 18 April 2019, after the cabinet reshuffle, remaining in the office until 27 April 2020.

On 2 November 2020, she was appointed as Special Assistant to Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar for Information.

After serving eight months as the SACM Punjab for information, the MNA is set to give up the mantle to go back to her hometown and capture the by-elections.
