Indian Army officer leaks information to alleged female ISI spy

The woman was a Pakistani agent who said that she is working in an Indian corporate firm. Several months after the contact with the woman, Kumar came to Delhi with the excuse of marriage and sought confidential documents of the Indian Army.

Indian Army personnel Pradeep Kumar was arrested on Saturday May 21 for allegedly leaking information to alleged female ISI spy reports India Today.

Indian media claims the 24-year-old Indian army officer was allegedly honeytrapped by a Pakistani woman to leak information. Kumar posted in Jodhpur came in contact with the woman through facebook. Woman is alleged to have impersonated as a Hindu woman to get in touch with Pradeep Kumar. She presented herself as the resident of the Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

According to Indian media, the woman was a Pakistani agent who said that she is working in an Indian corporate firm. Several months after the contact with the woman, Kumar came to Delhi on the excuse of the marriage and sought confidential documents of Indian Army. Images of the confidential information of strategic and military importance were sent to the Pakistani woman, an alleged agent of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Reports claims Kumar and the woman established contact on Whatsapp six months ago. DG Intelligence Umesh Mishra said Kumar exchanged information and the plans were to scapegoat other soldiers. Mishra says a female friend of Kumar was also involved in the incident.

Authorities took Kumar into custody for interrogation on May 18th on allegations of espionage and arrested him on 21st May.

Last week, another officer of Indian Air Force named Devendra Sharma was held by Crime Branch Delhi Police after he leaked sensitive information regarding the IAF’s radar system to an alleged spy of ISI. Sharma also met a woman on Facebook. A few weeks later, the woman called Sharma and asked him to share information about IAF’s radars. Sharma obtained the required information from the IAF’s computer and passed on to woman. It is not clear what actions will be taken against both the officers.
