Lahore Police Seeks Polygraph and Photographic Tests on Imran Khan in May 9 Violence Cases

Lahore police have requested permission from the Anti-Terrorism Court to conduct polygraph and photographic tests on Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 violence cases.

On Wednesday, Lahore police submitted an application to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), requesting permission to conduct polygraph (lie detector) and photographic tests on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 violence cases.

The prosecution argued that these tests are crucial to advancing the investigation into the unrest that followed Khan’s 2023 arrest, particularly to determine the truth and identify those involved in attacks on key state installations.

Barrister Salman Safdar, representing Khan, strongly opposed the plea, calling it “malicious” and an “afterthought.” He argued that filing such a request nearly two years after the incident lacks legal justification and is politically motivated.

“This application aims to intimidate, not to serve justice,” Safdar told the court, urging the judge to reject the request.

The May 9 cases relate to violent demonstrations and assaults on military and public properties following Khan’s arrest by paramilitary forces at the Islamabad High Court. The PTI leadership maintains the protests were spontaneous and have since been politically weaponized to target the party.
