Maryam Nawaz gets trolled for her election symbol

Since PML-N did not issue tickets to any of its candidates, they were assigned random symbols. As a result, Maryam Nawaz got assigned "Tandoor" from PP-173 for which she getting heavily trolled on social media. 

PML-N Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz is getting heavily trolled on social media for her election symbol.

The Election Commission of Pakistan awarded election symbols to the candidates contesting for upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. The commission allotted election symbols to 34 candidates including 28 independent candidates in the PP-144 constituency, whereas, 27 candidates including 21 independents got election symbols in PP-145.

Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz will contest the Punjab elections as independent candidates. Since PML-N did not issue tickets to any of its candidates, they were assigned random symbols. As a result, Maryam Nawaz got assigned “Tandoor” from PP-173 for which she getting heavily trolled on social media.

The daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has always been under the spotlight, however, for all the wrong reasons. Due to her political narrative, and the occasional social media faux passes, Maryam Nawaz remains a target of intense social media backlash.

This time around, netizens are mocking senior PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz for the election symbol she was assigned. To clarify, Tandoor is a clay oven fired to high heat by wood or charcoal in which bread is baked.

On the other hand, Hamza Shahbaz was given the election symbol of “Peacock” from PP-145 and “boat” as an election symbol from PP-147. In contrast, Waqar Ahmed of PTI was given the party’s election symbol “bat” from PP-145 and PTI’s candidate Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan got the party symbol from PP-147. Against Maryam Nawaz, from PP-173, PTI’s candidate Dr. Yasmin Rashid has gotten the party symbol.

In March, Maryam Nawaz – perhaps putting her popularity to the test and contesting elections for the first time as well – filed nomination papers from four constituencies — three from Lahore and one from Gujranwala — for the upcoming provincial polls.

Maryam filed nomination papers from three Lahore constituencies, PP-149, PP-173, and PP-158. Besides Lahore, she has also filed her papers for one Gujranwala constituency, PP-63.
