Mexican social worker crowned Miss World 2018

Vanessa Ponce de Leon, a 26-year old model from Mexico has been crowned the 68th Miss World. The beauty pageant Miss World was held in China’s Sanya City Arena.


Vanessa, born on March 7, 1992, has become the first Mexican model to be crowned Miss World. The final ceremony of the beauty pageant contest was held in Chinese island of Hainan on Saturday while 118 contestants from around the world participated in the contest. The city of Sanya has hosted its eighth Miss World contest, with first hosted back in 2003.

There were top five contestants in the race to be crowned Miss World, including runner-up Miss Thailand Nicolene Limsnukan, Miss Uganda Quinn Abenakyo, who was placed third and the remaining two from Belarus and Jamaica.


Miss World 2017, Manushi Chillar from India crowned her successor Vanessa Ponce de Leon as the 68th Miss World.


Vanessa Ponce de Leon is a full-time model in Mexico and holds a degree in International Economics from the University of Guanajuato and is on the board of directors of a rehab center for girls, volunteers for “Migrantes en el Camino” and is also a speaker for the National Youth Institute, according to the Miss World website.

Ponce commenced her modeling career as a contestant on Cycle 5 of Mexico’s Next Top Model in 2014 and won the competition. She became the Miss Mexico on 5th May 2018.

“I can’t believe it, I really can’t believe it,” the newly crowned Miss World 2018 said backstage. “And I think all the girls deserved it. I am proud to represent all of them. I will do as much as I can in the time I have got. Thank you so much, everyone”, said the beautiful Vanessa Ponce de Leon.

The former Miss World Manushi Chillar also congratulated Vanessa Ponce de Leon.
