Nawaz Sharif returning to Pakistan in November

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for London in 2019 on the basis of medical treatment. However, he has not returned since.

PML-N Supreme leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is returning to Pakistan in November. This was revealed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi.

According to the details, Hanif Abbasi asserted that the three-time prime minister would return to Pakistan from London by late November or December. It is expected that Nawaz Sharif will return with his daughter and PML-N Vice President, Maryam Nawaz, who is also currently in London.

The curious case of Nawaz Sharif’s return

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for London in 2019 on the basis of medical treatment. However, he has not returned since. On several occasions, PML-N has hinted at his return.

At first, it was announced by PML-N leaders that Nawaz Sharif will return if the no-confidence motion (NCM) against former Prime Minister Imran Khan succeeds – that was in March. The NCM was successful and PML-N came into power, however, no return of Nawaz Sharif yet. Then it was revealed that Nawaz Sharif will return after Eid. Later, the date changed to September.

Political experts are of the view that the delay in Nawaz Sharif’s return is due to the PTI-backed provincial government in Punjab. PML-N wants to govern Punjab so that the Punjab government could allegedly facilitate Nawaz Sharif’s return, however, that seems impossible as long as the incumbent provincial government is in power in Punjab.

To turn the tides in favor of PML-N, the party is considering bringing in a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi. Hanif Abbasi, in his statement today on Nawaz Sharif’s return also hinted at bringing a no-confidence motion against Parvez Elahi, claiming that his own people were not supporting him.
