Omar Cheema to be appointed as Advisor to Punjab Home Minister

PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan gave the approval for Omar Sarfraz Cheema as the Advisor to Punjab Home Minister.

In a major development, Omar Sarfraz Cheema will be appointed as Advisor to Punjab’s Home Minister, just a day after Colonel (retd) Hashim Dogar announced his resignation from the post.

According to the details, PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan gave the approval for Omar Sarfraz Cheema as the Advisor to Punjab Home Minister. He will have all the powers of the provincial home minister.

Omar Sarfraz Cheema had previously served as the governor of Punjab and is currently Advisor to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Information.

Pertinent to mention that in May, shortly after the PML-N ousted Imran Khan from office, Omar Cheema was denotified as the Governor of Punjab by the incumbent government.

On April 16, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif moved a summary to President Dr. Arif Alvi for the removal of Cheema which he rejected. The premier again sent a summary for his removal after a gap of 14 days. According to the constitution, a summary automatically becomes a notification when it is forwarded again.

Hashim Dogar’s resignation

Colonel (retd) Hashim Dogar on Tuesday resigned as Punjab’s Minister for Home and Prisons. The PTI leader said that he did not want to continue working as the interior minister in Punjab.

Hashim Dogar gave his hand-written resignation letter to Punjab’s Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi citing inevitable circumstances and personal reasons for quitting the coveted ministry.

“I have resigned from my post due to personal reasons,” he wrote on Twitter, adding that he will continue to work as a PTI worker.

It was reported that the PTI leadership and workers are not satisfied with the performance of Mr. Dogar as he has allegedly failed to give a tough time to the PML-N leaders and workers. Apparently, PTI leadership was unhappy with the fact that no action has been taken against the police officials, who are involved in subjecting the PTI leaders and activists to brutal torture during the May 25 Long March.
