Pakistani fans outraged over Esra Bilgic appearing in Victoria’s Secret ad

The brand had hired Ertugrul-famed Esra Bilgic for the promotion of their latest collection. This is not the first time she has been facing moral policing from Pakistani fans over her choice of dressing.

Turkish actress Esra Bilgic once again became the target of moral policing after she appeared in an advertisement for Victoria’s Secret.

Esra Bilgic on Sunday shared the video of her appearing in the ad of Victoria’s Secret that turned out to be quite problematic for her. Pakistani fans stormed her Instagram account with messages denouncing her for showing ‘too much skin’ in the ad.

The brand had hired Ertugrul-famed Esra Bilgic for the promotion of their latest collection. This is not the first time she has been facing moral policing from Pakistani fans over her choice of dressing. However, this time, Pakistani fans were outraged to see her appearing in the lingerie advertisement.

According to the Pakistani internet users, she should dress modestly as she had dressed in the drama series, Dirilis Ertugrul. “Shame on you! After Halima’s character, you should be ashamed of this type of dress,” wrote one Twitter user.

Esra Bilgic had played Halime Sultan, the wife of Ertugrul in the series. She donned modest dresses throughout the series. Pakistani fans, beguiled by her dressing in the series, expect her to dress the same way in real life as well.

Advice to critics

They feel quite outrageous when she wears western or revealing dresses. Meanwhile, Pakistani VJ Anoushey Ashraf came to the defense of Esra Bilgic. She advised them to stop following her on social media if they had a problem with her professional choices.

“Why don’t men unfollow her?” remarked Anoushey. “Or just cover their eyes and only open them when they need to read, drive and watch TV?”

Back in 2020, fed up with the moral policing, Turkish actress Esra Bilgic finally gave a shut-up call to a Pakistani troll who criticized her for wearing a western dress in a picture posted online by the actress earlier this week.

A Pakistani internet user, named Ali, posted an unwarranted comment on her picture on Instagram in which Esra Bilgic is seen wearing a cream-colored top and a blazer.

“Please don’t wear such dresses Halima baji, not good,” Ali wrote, referring her to the character of Halime Sultan – a Muslim princess – played by Bilgic in the Turkish series, Dirilis Ertugrul.

After bearing months of unpleasant and strict moral policing, Esra Bilgic finally retorted and dissed the hateful comment. In her reactionary post, Esra Bilgic said- “Let me give you a little advice: Don’t follow me, thank you.”
