Pakistani govt’s official Twitter account taken down in India?

The official Twitter account of the Pakistan Government was withheld in India in response to a legal demand by the Indian government.

The official Twitter account of the Pakistani government has been taken down in India. On the Twitter page of the official handle, it was written that the account has been withheld in India.

According to the details reported by the Indian media, the Twitter account of the Pakistani Government was withheld in India in response to a legal demand by the Centre. It is unclear what prompted the move against the Twitter handle of the Pakistan government, however, Twitter withholds content that is in violation of local laws based on requests received from authorities.

Pertinent to mention that this is not the first time that account of the Pakistani government has been withheld in India. Two months ago, the Indian government took a similar action, however, the account was accessible to Indian users after two days.

India blocks Pakistani Youtube channels

The Indian government is known for taking strict action and banning media platforms for allegedly spreading fake news.

Earlier, India banned several official accounts of Pakistan Embassies on Twitter for allegedly spreading fake news. The official accounts of the Pakistani Embassy in the UN, Turkey, Iran and Egypt were withheld by Twitter in India. The account of the national public broadcaster in Pakistan – Radio Pakistan was also withheld on the microblogging site.

Earlier in April, India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting had blocked sixteen YouTube-based news channels, including six from Pakistan.
