PTI wins Sialkot seat in major upset for PML-N

Another major victory for PTI as it wins the PP-38 Sialkot by-election. PTI beat PML-N with a margin of 7,117 votes. As per the supporters, PTI’s victory in Sialkot is a setback for PML-N as Sialkot was previously PML-N’s stronghold.

PTI supporters are congratulating the winning party in Sialkot. As per the supporters, PTI’s victory in Sialkot is an important one as previously Sialkot was PML-N’s stronghold. PTI emerging victorious in the Sialkot by-election sets a precedent for the 2023 General election.

PTI candidate Ahsan Saleem Baryar won the PP-38 Sialkot by-election on Wednesday. According to unofficial results, Baryar received 60,588 from 165 polling stations.

His opponent, PML-N’s Tariq Subhani was able to secure 53,471 votes. Therefore, PTI beat PML-N with a margin of 7,117 votes.

PTI won the PP-38 Sialkot seat, vacated after PML-N’s Akhtar Subhani passed away.

The polling began yesterday at 8 am and continued till 5 pm. However, rain-affected the polling process in some areas.

There are a total of 233,422 registered voters — 128,128 male and 105,294 female — in the constituency, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The ECP had set up 165 polling stations and 487 polling booths, including 262 booths for male voters and 225 booths for female voters, for the by-election.

During polling, the police arrested five people for displaying weapons and violating Section 144 in the constituency, a police spokesperson said.

Officials arrested Rizwan, Asim, Saleem Zafar, Rukhsar, and Ali Najam. They also recovered weapons and several rounds from them, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, District Police Officer Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani said no one would be allowed to take the law into their hands and vowed to take strict action against such elements.

PTI speeding towards success

With the latest victory, the PTI has now two provincial assembly seats in the Sialkot district out of the 11 Punjab Assembly seats.

While taking to Twitter, Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Mazhar also reacted to PTI’s victory in Sialkot.

“Sialkot has rejected those who had a meeting with anti-Pakistan people in their drawing-room,” Hammad Azhar tweeted.

He was referring to Nawaz Sharif’s recent meeting with Afghan NSA. The Afghan NSA in question is notorious for his anti-Pak statements.

“This constituency has voted in favor of PTI three years after Noon-League won here in 2018,” the federal energy minister added.

Earlier this week, PTI bagged the AJK elections as well. It won 25 of the 45 seats and emerged as a majority in AJK.

PPP on the other hand won eleven seats and PML-N secured six seats.

As people celebrated PM Khan’s victory, Maryam Nawaz and Bilawal Bhutto were not happy with the results. Both of them accused PTI of rigging the elections. However, AJK Secretary Election Commission Muhammad Ghazanfar Khan said the elections were free, fair, and transparent.

After the Kashmir elections win for PTI, people began voicing their dissatisfaction with Maryam Nawaz’s politics. However, now after PML-N’s Sialkot defeat, calls for Maryam Nawaz to take a step back in politics will strengthen further.
