Release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in India postponed for indefinite period

The release of Pakistan’s super-hit movie The Legend of Maula Jatt in India has been postponed for an indefinite period.

The film was scheduled to release in India on December 30 after clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification. The release has been stalled after CBFC recalled its decision.

“Zee Studios had already acquired a clearance for The Legend Of Maula Jatt from the Central Board of Film Certification. But on Monday the CBFC recalled the film,” reports Indian media outlet Bollywood Hungama.

There is an ambiguity regarding the actual reason behind the postponement of the release of the movie. The media reports say it is unclear if CBFC has revoked the clearance certificate.

The makers of the movie Bilal Lashari and Ammara Hikmat had not confirmed the release of the movie in India. Several Indian media outlets reported the release of the movie in India amid political tension between the two countries.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The Legend Of Maula Jatt will be released in India on December 30, 2022. It’ll be the last major release to hit Indian screens. It was released in Pakistan and elsewhere in the world on October 13, 2022, and it has crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark at the worldwide box office. It is the first film from Pakistan to achieve this feat. Hence, a lot of people in India, especially the fans of the lead cast, are looking forward to seeing the film, and it can have healthy box office numbers.”

Multiplex chain PVR Cinemas had shared a release announcement on its official Instagram page but deleted it soon after. “Presenting the official poster of #TheLegendofMaulaJatt! Coming to PVR this Friday,” the post read.
