Suraya Bibi from Chitral becomes Deputy Speaker KP assembly

Suraya Bibi made history by becoming the first female to be elected on the general seat to the KP assembly from Chitral. She garnered 18000 votes. Chitral also made history with the 50% voter turnout.

Suraya Bibi from Chitral became the Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly. She is a PTI-backed elected parliamentarian in the KP assembly.

She won the PK-01 seat from Chitral. She defeated JUI-F’ Shakeel Ahmed who secured 10,000 votes against her. Suraya Bibi made history by becoming the first female to be elected on the general seat to the KP assembly from Chitral. She garnered 18000 votes. Chitral also made history with the 50% voter turnout.

She attributed her victory to the marginalized status of women in underprivileged and underdeveloped areas of Pakistan. By profession, she is a social worker and was led the PTI in Malakand Division.

“Upon careful consideration of the prevailing issues in my constituency, I recognized the persistent neglect and discouragement of women’s roles in societal development for decades,” she expressed.

PTI is leading the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly with Ali Amin Gandapur being the next Chief Minister of KPK. PTI founder Imran Khan has nominated Ali Amin Gandapur for the CM slot.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has granted an extension of bail until March 19 to Ali Amin Gandapur, who is expected to assume the role of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. This decision comes amidst ongoing cases against him, with the court instructing authorities not to arrest him during the interim period.

The case was heard by Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmed, where petitions regarding Gandapur’s legal matters were addressed. The court explicitly directed law enforcement agencies to refrain from arresting Gandapur in connection with any of the ongoing investigations.

Additionally, the court ordered the government and relevant institutions to provide detailed responses in the next hearing, which has been adjourned until March 19.

In granting bail to Ali Amin Gandapur until the specified date, the court has requested comprehensive information regarding the cases lodged against him.

Ali Amin says he will be meeting Imran Khan in jail to discuss the KP cabinet. He says he has submitted his papers for the election of CM KPK.
