A powerful explosion in Quaidabad area of Karachi on Friday killed at least two people and eight others sustained injuries, police and hospital officials said.
Rescue teams rushed to the site of the incident and shifted the injured to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). According to Dr. Seemi Jamali–executive Director JPMC–two people succumbed to injuries while they were being brought to the hospital, while three out of eight other victims are in critical condition.
The Bomb Disposal Squad after the incident, during the surveillance, found another bomb of 400-500 grams, prepared in a tiffin box and linked with the IED device.
Police disclosed the identity of one of the deceased as Pappu son of Mushtaq; while the injured include Rasheed Rafique 18, Mushtaq Bilal 22, Haq Nawaz 55, Siddiq Dawood 55, Arsalan Tariq 35, Allah Ditta 25, Qamar Abbas 28, and Shahabud din 26.
SSP Malir, Irfan Bahadur said that the blast took place under Quaidabad flyover that is a busy area of the locality; vendors sell fruit and other items of daily use at that makeshift market.
The police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the tragic incident to ascertain the exact nature and cause of the explosion.

The explosion was loud, could be heard from a distance and following it the power supply to the surrounding areas was disrupted.

Raja Umer Khitab, in-charge Counter Terrorism Department spoke to the press later on and said that further information would be shared after the chemical examination of evidence and explosive collected from the site, saying it was yet to ascertain the nature of the explosion.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Imran Ismail have taken notice of the incident and sought a report from additional inspector-general and inspector-general Sindh respectively.
Nobody has so far claimed responsibility but Karachi, the country’s economic and commercial hub, has long been in the grip of militant, sectarian and ethnic violence.
