Automakers worldwide are racing to keep pace with the ever-changing onroad environment. Premium automobile company BMW recently launched an all-new 2020 model of 2-series Gran Coupe. It comes packed with some really exciting features to be discussed later in this article.
Its potential sedan competitors in the market include:

Engine
BMW 2020 2-series Gran Coupe has two variants, both having a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder. It makes 228 horsepower in the 228i and 301 horsepower in the M235i.
Moreover, the good news is that both variants of the 2020 model are All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) and have an eight-speed automatic transmission. This provides for the added power required when travelling uphill/ in low-gear areas
Exterior
The Gran Coupe 2020 model is a couple of inches longer than the two-door variant of 2 Series. However, if we compare it with the 3 Series, Gran Coupe is 7.5 inches shorter.
It has a large front grill flanked by full-LED headlights along with the signature BMW daytime running lamps.
If we look towards the rear end we find slim, sharped-edged LED taillights and a traditional round exhaust. Gran Coupe 2020 has 17-inch wheels in the 228i variant, while the M235i receives bigger 18-inch bi-colour wheels.
Finally, @BMWUSA has a direct competitor to the MB A-Class and Audi A3. The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is positioned as a flag-bearer of lux and performance at a reasonably attainable price.

Interior
BMW Gran Coupe 2020 has a cabin which is simple yet elegant. It is highlighted by ambient interior lighting that illuminates the dashboard and door panels. An 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen sits atop the dashboard. These functions are offered, some of which are optional:
- SiriusXM satellite radio
- Wireless smartphone-charging pad (optional)
- Harman/Kardon stereo system (optional)
- Apple CarPlay
- GPS Navigation

BMW claims that rear-seat legroom is nearly the same as the larger 3-series sedan which is a huge bonus, provided that traditionally that wasn’t the case. Having said that we should expect the cabin to feel more cosy and comfortable for both front and rear-seat passengers.
If we look at the luggage capacity of the 2-series Gran Coupe’s, it has a small trunk. It should be sufficient for regular grocery shopping and weekend road trips. Furthermore, if that is not enough for you and you need more space there’s some good news for you! The rear seats fold down to accommodate bulkier cargo.
Despite the fastback profile of this car, the 2020 model 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with a standard conventional sized trunk. With that said, the trunk capacity is large for the class. There is enough interior storage for your personal items too.
If we combine its trunk capacity with the Mercedes A-Class, CLA or Audi A3, BMW fans have a moment to cheer. Gran Coupe 2020 offers much more space than its rival cars.

Safety and suspension
The 2-series Gran Coupe has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). BMW’s Active Driving Assistant will come standard, which includes a suite of driver-assistance features to help reduce the likelihood of an accident.
Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist

Price and availability
The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 228i comes with a price tag of $38,495/ 31,203£/ 6,172,080 PKR. Its main competitors the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA cost $33,300/ 26958£/ 5,339,142 PKR and $36,650/ 29,670£/ 5,876,263 PKR respectively.
The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 228i went on sale in the U.S. in March 2020.
