The incumbent government stalled the project, and the AstroTurf was not placed on time. Therefore, the artificial grass has now become useless

Ahsan Iqbal has been accused of misappropriating funds of the federal government and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in a sports city project being established in Narowal. The PML-N leader maintains that he has provided all documents pertaining to his income and expenditures to the NAB authorities in Rawalpindi.

The opposition leader claimed that he is not connected with the corruption case as the project was initiated in 2009, during the tenure of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He maintained that he was not a federal minister back then.

He added that before the Imran Khan-led government came into power, the project of the NSC was 90% complete, but the incumbent government turned it into a disaster. He said, “The NAB should act against those people who are responsible for ruining a national asset (NSC).”

The PML-N leader maintained that when he was appointed as a federal minister, the NSC project was lying stagnant like many other projects that had been stalled. He argued that the PML-N government took control and revived the project, taking it to near completion.

He said that the PML-N government had imported AstroTurf (artificial grass) for the ground in sports city, and it was to be laid out within six months. He said, “The incumbent government stalled the project, and the AstroTurf was not placed on time. Therefore, the artificial grass has now become useless.”
