Armeena Khan calls award system in Pakistan biased

News Desk |

Pakistani-Canadian actress Armeena Khan expressed her disappointment with the recent Lux Style Awards held in Lahore last week. She objected to the selective behaviour of the management towards celebrities, saying the award system must honour every actor working in the industry irrespective of his/her status in the entertainment industry.

In the tweet, she wrote: “Need to have an awards system that is inclusive of all actors no matter how big or small and it should be transparent. I think we need independent awards free from politics.”

She also raised her questions on the biases and the internal politics within the entertainment industry. The influence of senior actors overshadows the hard work of other actors. She pointed out that such practice leaves the efforts of many deserving actors unrecognized.

She said that this year she was invited to open the show with a dance number. She earlier mentioned that a few years back she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Bin Roye’ but she was not invited to the ceremony despite her reminders to the organizers to invite her.

“I found their behavior to be extremely bizarre since despite being in Karachi, I couldn’t attend the show. The next year I was there to support my colleagues, only to find out that I was made to sit away from the area designated for the celebrities,” Armeena said.

Her followers too backed her stance and agreed with her argument that the award system in Pakistan is biased and subjective. In response to the comment of her follower, she mocked that awards do not matter.

Meanwhile, some people believe Armeena Khan is agitated over Mahira Khan being awarded the best actress award for Verna. Many say her tweet is the mere reflection of her jealousy and insecurity.
