News Analysis |

Ayesha Gulalai, the PTI dissident announced to the media today that she would form a splinter group of the party while reiterating charges of corruption, harassment, and incompetence against the chairman, Imran Khan. She appeared before the Election Commission to respond to the reference filed in order to de-seat her from the National Assembly.

Gulalai continues to defame Imran Khan and the PTI, it is not clear why she has not resigned from her seat. If she insists on remaining in the party, her claims that women are not safe in PTI will gain little mileage

Under Pakistani law, Article 63 A (1) of the Constitution, any individual that has been elected on a political party ticket, has to leave that seat once they resign from that party or party disciplines them and removes them. As a formality under the law, the ECP has up to 4 weeks before removing the parliamentarian. It is usually done so immediately.

PTI has sent a notice, “In furtherance thereof and in compliance with the requirements of Article 63 A (2) of the Constitution, this declaration is being forwarded to you as well as the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chief Election Commissioner for further action in accordance with the Constitution,”

After receiving the responses from the counsels of Ayesha Gulalai and PTI, the ECP hearing was adjourned until the 26th of September. A four-member bench headed by Ghaffar Soomro heard the case during which, Gulalai termed the reference against her as based on dishonesty.

Imran Khan alleging him of sending inappropriate text messages and harassing her. She also asserted that female members’ honor is not safe at the hands of Khan and his associates

She said that other dissenters to include Akbar S Babar, Justice Wajih and some MPAs were ready to join her in the group.“We will soon hold a meeting to decide the future course of action, and give a date for a rally,” she told media.

Ayesha Gulalai surprised the media last month when she appeared out of the blue and went on an accusation spree against his chairman, Imran Khan alleging him of sending inappropriate text messages and harassing her. She also asserted that female members’ honor is not safe at the hands of Khan and his associates. Subsequently, Gulalai dithered, backtracked and to-date has not furnished evidence to back her allegations.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, Gulalai took on Khan once again.”Money of people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was spent on NA-120 by polls by the PTI. Imran Niazi should think over why did he lose the by-election in Lahore,” she said using Khan’s tribe name.

She again repeated her earlier allegations against CM KPK, Pervaiz Khattak. She claimed that the Etsehab Commission will not take Khattak to task for his corruption because it is under his influence.

The PTI dissident announced to the media today that she would form a splinter group of the party while reiterating charges of corruption, harassment, and incompetence against the chairman, Imran Khan

She also flayed Khan for inducting stalwarts from other parties.“How can he talk about the poor and the middle class while making an alliance with billionaires and feudal lords,” she said naming Nazr Gondal, Babar Awan, Firdous Ashiq Awan and Aleem Khan.

Although Gulalai continues to defame Imran Khan and the PTI, it is not clear why she has not resigned from her seat. If she insists on remaining in the party, her claims that women are not safe in PTI will gain little mileage. Neither has she not provided her phone for the forensic study to substantiate her claims. Add the discrepancies in her statements and interviews over the past month showed, she has quite a lot of explanation to do. As things stand, Gulalai may find it tough to retain her NA seat if she carries on her diatribes against Imran Khan.

  1. PTI AND GULLALAI

The other day someone on Facebook commented about the Pakistani female politicians that are elected on reserved seats. It was suggested that most of these ladies get the party ticket through the politician’s bed. I would tend to agree and unfortunately it has been like this for ages. There is no point in naming the ladies here.

With the current PTI issues, I was hoping things to be different because of the so called ‘tabdeely’.

I was hoping that after the Gullalai allegations, Imran Khan would come out and publically assure Gullalai and all the other women in Pakistan, that he as a leader of the party treated them with complete respect and consider all of them no different than his Sisters. He should have assured Pakistani women and men that he was absolutely clean and if there was something that was considered offensive by Gullalai, he regrets and apologizes to the entire nation and Gullalai.

IK and PTI response was unfortunately absolutely disgusting and disappointing. Rather than responding to allegations of harrassment, IK counter attacked her and acused her of taking money from PMLN and Geo; followed this up by unleashing the social media power of PTI against Gullalai and her squash playing sister, who had nothing to do with this non sense. The PTI politicians and media anchors like Mubashir Luqman ripped the poor lady apart and insulted her and abused her on prime time TV.

In my view, the treatment of Gullali was the height of lowliness by PTI. She was part of PTI and as such their colleague. For right or wrong reasons, when she parted away with PTI, there was no justifications what so ever to attack her this viciously and left her bare naked for the entire world to laugh over it.

Lets all of us asssume for a moment – what if Gullalai allegations are indeed correct. Then? How fair this society would be to Gullali, who happens to be young and beautiful, as a women. Whether any other young women would ever bother to go into Pakistani politics after that.

No matter how bad a women is – whether she is lowly prostitute or whatever – they MUST be treated with respect and dignity. Those who don’t respect women just show nothing but their own lowliness; this is what PTI has done.

We must remember that weak, coward, uncivilized, unmannered, and low class people treat women with disrespect. Think about the overall PTI’s behaviour in this Gullallai matter… what they have demonstrated is that they have no respect for women; and let’s remind ourselves of Gullali’s first allegation “no respect for women in PTI”. Unfortunately IK and PTI have proved her fully correct.

There were many female leaders who had changed parties. Many left PPP, but never ever I heard any low language from PPP jiyalas towards their former colleague. Have we heard any foul language from PPP jiyalas about Firdos Awan? No. That is the dignity of PPP. No matter how corrupt PPP is – they have dignity atleast.

PMLN had quite few people leave, did they insult them after those ladies joined Musharraf party; and have since joined PMLN back. There were some level of rumbling but not like what we have seen with PTI.

I am a male and have supported IK before many many times. However not again, unless PTI leadership (not just IK but all of them) make a public announcement that all male members in party leadership and membership commit to consider and treat each female member and worker of the party as his own sister or mother… the problem of calling another person as sister or mother is that you wouldn’t be able to insult them when you disagree with them and that is what is lacking in PTI…

    • Dear.
If she was right she should have been consistent and back it with evidence and I and many others would have supported her.
But over the years there are many cases where a women had falsely accused someone and ruined their life.
Regardless of how things turned out. She should have had some self respect and gone to court against IK and resigned from the seat.
It seems for now that she lost her credibility when she could not back her words and was not consistent and lied and changed her stance again and again.
Plus as per my own sources her father was a regular guest of governors house Peshawar.
This all just led to her downfall and only she is to be blamed for what happened and will happen to female cause.
