Babar Azam scored his first century of PSL 9 in the match against Islamabad United in Lahore yesterday.

Former skipper Babar Azam and the current skipper of PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi has dedicated his magnificent performance to his mother.

Babar Azam scored his first century of PSL 9 in the match against Islamabad United in Lahore yesterday. Delighted on his match performance, he said that this was the first time his mother had come to watch his match in the stadium. Hence, he is very excited and wants to dedicate his victory and performance to his mother.

“My mother came [to watch] for the first time. She’s very happy. She enjoyed it. She always watches at home but she proved to be [a source of] good luck for me,” expressed Azam, echoing the sentiment of familial support that often transcends the boundaries of the cricketing arena.

Playing first, Peshawar Zalmi had set the target of 193 runs for Islamabad United. Both Babar Azam and Saim Ayub had played a formidable innings for Peshawar Zalmi. Azam Khan and Munro from Islamabad United were on the verge of victory when spinner Arif Yaqoob snatched the victory from United’s jaws. In the second last over of the second innings, he claimed four wickets in an over, bringing Zalmi back into the game.

Islamabad United have not been able any game so far. They are standing at the bottom of the points table currently. Meanwhile, Multan Sultans are leading the points table followed by Zalmi and Karachi Kings at third spot.

Babar Azam had resigned from the captaincy of all formats in November 2023. The decision followed Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 group stage.

Azam, a highly regarded batter, shared the news on Wednesday, stating, “It’s a difficult decision, but I feel it is the right time for this call. I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats.”
