Bilawal Bhutto’s sexist remarks on his marriage offend people

News Desk |

Pakistan People’s Party emerging leader and Member of National Assembly Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recently gave a witty response to the question over his marriage thrown at him by a reporter at a press conference.

Bilawal was asked when is he planning to marry to which he responded that, “We are having detailed, comprehensive strategic meetings about this. We are planning the exact time, whether we should do it before the elections or after, whether it should be during our campaigning or before.”

He went on to say with a big grin, “[We’re also discussing] if I should marry one woman or four… one from each of Pakistan’s provinces. We are investigating what the electoral impact of that will be. When the report is complete, I’ll present it to you.”

“I have lots of offers! But whichever girl decides to marry me, she will have to explain to both my sisters that this will be a very, very difficult task. I know that my sisters… lovely, lovely, beautiful, beautiful girls, I love them a lot.” said Bilawal.

According to several commentators on social media, Bilawal Bhutto has tarnished his image of a progressive, young male leader hailing from the feudal setup.

Though he managed to garner few laughs, people on social media were irked by his comment of pondering whether to have one wife or four from each province. The netizens believe his comments reflected the engraved disrespect for women as if they were a commodity to be selected or a ladder to pursue the political agendas.

They have warned Bilawal to be more prudent with his comments regarding the women in the future. Being a son to the world’s renowned female leader Benazir Bhutto he is under strict radar globally for his outlook on the respect of women.

Back in 2016, Bilawal was asked if he was receiving marriage proposals. Relying upon his own with the inexperienced Bilawal gave a decent response.

“I have lots of offers! But whichever girl decides to marry me, she will have to explain to both my sisters that this will be a very, very difficult task. I know that my sisters… lovely, lovely, beautiful, beautiful girls, I love them a lot.” said Bilawal.
