Can PTI’s flamboyant Ministers bring a much-needed change in Punjab?

The new Punjab cabinet will take oath at Governor House in Lahore, today. The ceremony is scheduled for 5 pm today. The acting Punjab Governor Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will administer the oath to the new cabinet. On Sunday, before nominating the 23-member cabinet, Prime Minister Imran Khan interviewed 30-lawmakers for the selection purposes. PM held an important session at his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad, yesterday, in the presence the CM Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, PTI leaders Aleem Khan, Dr. Yasmin Rashid and others potential cabinet members.

PTI only assigned ministries to15 members and, is yet to announce the portfolios of the remaining eight-member cabinet, which will be finalized at a later date. In the PTI’s agenda and the campaign trail, health and education remain the top priorities, along with the economic revival of the country. Some of the members, who were the top contenders for the CM position, have been allocated important ministries to realize the dream of Naya Pakistan.

The countdown to PTI’s first 100 days and its much-publicized agenda has already started. People expectations have skyrocketed, after Khan’s maiden address to the nation, and Punjab remains key to realize the dream of ‘Naya Pakistan’. 

The party has nominated Dr. Yasmin Rashid for the ministry of Primary, and Secondary Healthcare/Specialized Healthcare and Medication Education. Chakwal’s Raja Yasir Humanyun Sarfraz a University of Florida graduate has been given the responsibility to improve higher education and tourism in the province.

Another young leader from Lahore, Dr. Murad Ross has been given the school education ministry. Ross, a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the United States, had a successful stint as a commercial and corporate banker, before returning to Pakistan to serve his motherland.

Yet another, a highly credible leader from Lahore, who was tipped for the position of CM Mian Aslam Iqbal has been appointed a provincial minister for industries, commerce, and investment. Imran has installed, a 41-year old leader, Raja Rashid Hafeez from Rawalpindi as a revenue minister.

Similarly, a 38-year old, young brother of Khusro Bakhtiar, and McGill University graduate, Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht has been installed as Finance Minister of the province. A major surprise was the induction of a young Independent candidate Rai Raimorr Khan from Jhang who joined the PTI government after the elections, is named as Youth Affairs and Sports minister.

Dr. Murad Ross has been given the school education ministry. Ross, a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the United States, had a successful stint as a commercial and corporate banker, before returning to Pakistan to serve his motherland. 

Senior leader and close ally of Imran, Aleem Khan has been named as Minister for Local Government. Moreover, outspoken leader, Faizul Hassan Chouhan who adores Germany’s racist, and homicidal psychopath, Adolf Hitler and publically displays his affection and admiration for the leader on his Twitter account, has been appointed a provincial minister for Information and Culture.

Former Opposition leader in Punjab assembly, Mehmood-ur-Rasheed is named as housing, urban development minister. Though, the Federal cabinet was more of a compromise, and lacked young faces from PTI, especially from KP. The countdown to PTI’s first 100 days and its much-publicized agenda has already started. People expectations have skyrocketed, after Khan’s maiden address to the nation, and Punjab remains key to realize the dream of ‘Naya Pakistan’.
