Deepika Padukone has been having quite a year. Her sole feature film Padmavat in 2018 became one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time and her performance was widely praised all across the board. Now, if the rumor mill is anything to go by, the actress will be getting married at the end of the year. She has decided to open up about her relationship with her former boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor in the Koffee with Karan episode.
In an upcoming episode, which will serve as the premiere of the series, Padukone is a guest along with Alia Bhatt and the two leading ladies of Bollywood and doesn’t seem shy about addressing the fact that she once dated Alia Bhatt’s current beau, Ranbir Kapoor. For those who may not know about the two, Deepika Padukone and Rockstar actor Ranbir Kapoor dated and even got engaged after they met on the set of Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Their four-year-long relationship ended amid Kapoor cheating on her (presumably with Katrina Kaif). Cut to now, there is a big reversal in fame, with Deepika Padukone’s star being much brighter than that of Kapoor who has had a significantly rocky career. The Om Shanti Om actress is also engaged to one of the biggest names in Indian Cinema, her frequent co-star Ranvir Singh.
Her appearance with Bhatt on Karan Johar’s talk show also will serve as an early promotional stunt to remind fans of Johar’s upcoming film entitled Takht which will star Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and Deepika.
The movie has been described as a period version of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum and has a star cast which also includes Jhanvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Kareena Kapoor. In addition to this film, the actress will also star in the fourth xXx film in the Vin Diesel-led action franchise. Deepika Padukone has also been attached to star in the biopic of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Aside from this, the actress has been rumored to be starring in a superhero film in the vein of Wonder Woman though no official word is out yet.
The actress is also advocating for mental health and in a video posted to her account, Padukone discusses being diagnosed with clinical depression in 2014 and the need to destigmatize mental illness.
In 2014, I was diagnosed with clinical depression,” Padukone said. “But in India, 90 percent of people who suffer from depression don’t seek help. Depression is like any other illness that requires intervention.” Using the #NotAshamed the actress is urging others to open up about depression, clinical and otherwise. The actress has founded the Live Laugh Love Foundation to promote mental health care.
News outlets are also buzzing about her upcoming nuptials with Ranveer Singh and it is said that the two will formally announce their wedding on October 17. It is rumored that the two will get married next month, November 14th in India or Italy.
