Turkish series, Dirilis Ertugrul topped the Google Search trends 2020 in Pakistan in the category of TV dramas and movies.

The drama outran the second most-watched Pakistani serial, ‘Meray Pass Tum Ho’ in Pakistan, showed the latest trends released by the search engine, Google, this week.

The drama was broadcasted in Ramzan in May in Pakistan this year coinciding with the coronavirus lockdown in Pakistan. The entertainment behemoth glued the Pakistani audience to the TV screen, with PTV broadcasting its Urdu-dubbed episodes to facilitate the masses.

PTV had aired the series on the special recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, as a part of his vision on social reforms.

“I warned against copying the west and Bollywood alike but people said this is what the public wants to watch. Ertugrul is also one of the most widely watched series, it doesn’t have any obscenity,” Khan said earlier in October.

Ever since its broadcast, the series ruled the social media platforms in Pakistan including YouTube and online streaming platform, Netflix.

In November, Dirilis Ertugrul had surpassed 10 million followers on its Urdu YouTube channel, TRT Ertugrul by PTV, reported Director of Digital Content and Strategy, Riyaad Minty.

Minty took to Twitter and shared the news with fans and followers of Resurrection Ertugrul. “We’ve passed 10 million subscribers on our Urdu Ertugrul channel on @YouTube – Thanks to all the fans around the world and to everyone who has contributed to the success. We’re just getting started,” Riyaad Minty said on Twitter.

The series has around 15 million subscribers globally and 3 billion views, added Minty in his tweet.

The state-run Turkish media, TRT, is working with Pakistan’s state-run media, PTV, to dub the series in the Urdu language for Urdu-speaking audiences in Pakistan and abroad for free.

A YouTube channel was launched in mid-April specifically for the series has nearly 8.5 million subscribers while the channel’s views climbed to over 1.3 billion as of Sept. 15.

Back in April, the series had shattered all the popularity records in Pakistan.

The state-run TV channel, which started airing the show under an arrangement with Turkish Radio and Television (TRT), is making it accessible to a far greater audience and igniting public interest.
