Frozen 2 collected whopping $350 million globally in debut week

Animated movie 'Frozen 2' has raked up humongous profit in the first week of the release; smashing some old records. The movie is set to establish new benchmarks for other animated movies to compete.

Animated movie, Frozen 2, smashed the box office record with a whopping $127 million profit at home and $350.2 million globally.

It has become the third-highest animated opening of all time; with the colossal profit collection, ‘Frozen 2’ has become the highest-grossing debut ever for any animated movie globally. It reaches a new high in the U.S and Canada for an animated movie released outside the summer season and also the largest for any Walt Disney Animation Studios.

It had the third-highest animated feature opening of all the time, behind ‘Incredible 2’, and ‘Finding Dory’. Analysts had anticipated that the movie would remain between $100 million to $140 million marks.

Disney also smartly chose to release the movie a week ahead of Thanksgiving, to pump in the kids out of school for the second-week bump. The earlier version of Frozen 2 opened on Thanksgiving and bagged $93 million in five days and $67 million for the three-day weekend.

Jennifer Lee, chief executive officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios, said: “If Frozen was happily ever after then Frozen 2 is the day after happily ever after.

The first Frozen was a massive success and remained in the top 10 for 17 weeks and eventually bagging $1.27 billion. It also won two Academy Awards, for best animated feature and original song. The original Frozen, released in 2013, revolved around Princess Elsa and her relation with, sister Anna.
