GEO TV and 7th Sky entertainment have canceled contracts with controversial drama writer, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar for hurling profanities and derogatory comments at social rights activist, Marvi Sirmed.
The channel said in its statement, that they have suspended their contracts with the writer for four drama serials and one film until he apologizes to Marvi Sirmed. The channel decided following the overwhelming outrage on Khalil-ur-Rehman’s rowdy behavior towards Marvi Sirmed two days ago on Neo TV.
Meanwhile, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar appeared on a separate show at Express TV and expressed that he had no regret over his behavior. He, however, stated that the reason he lost his temper was not when Marvi Sirmed interrupted him but when she chanted the slogan ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi-My body my choice’.
GEO TV condemned KRQ’s outrageous and indecent behavior and asserted that the channel believes in freedom of expression and on the slogan ‘live and let live’ in its statement. It further added that it promotes healthy debates and that Qamar not only abused a woman but also refused to accept his mistake.
Qamar disdained Marvi Sirmed and proponents of Aurat March during an altercation. Marvi Sirmed too retorted in ire and dissed Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar following indecent and derogatory comments on her. He body-shamed and swear her in a TV program.
Soon the video clip of Marvi Sirmed and Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s argument went viral on social media that spurred tremendous reactions on Twitter. The video spread like wildfire on social media subsequently trends like #MeraJismMeriMarzi, #AuratMarch2020, Marvi, and Khalil Qamar swarmed Pakistani Twitter.
Hence to avoid the backlash, GEO TV has suspended their contracts with Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
The blatant profanities hurled at Marvi Sirmed baffled social media users. Meanwhile, anchorperson Aisha also issued the statement of apology explaining her perturbation and confusion that failed her to efficiently handle the situation. She assured that nothing on her part was intentional.
