Haleem Adil Sheikh underwent surgery due to torture in jail

Former Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail also criticized the jail authorities and claimed that such cruelty did not happen with prisoners of war in dictatorial times.

Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly and PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh had to undergo an operation because he was denied medical treatment while in police custody.

According to the details, Haleem Adil Sheikh – who was earlier released from Central Jail, Karachi after a court approved his bail plea – had an infection in his leg which was allegedly the result of severe torture on him in jail.

The authorities in Central Jail refused to give him medical treatment, due to which the infection on his leg spread, leading to surgery. Fortunately, the surgery was successful and Haleem Adil Sheikh is in recovery.

“It is shameful that despite multiple orders from courts, Haleem Adil did not receive medical treatment in jail. It is because of that that he developed an infection in his leg and is in the operation theatre now undergoing surgery – a surgery that could have been avoided if he got treatment,” the PTI leader’s daughter revealed on Twitter.

Similarly, PTI leader and former Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail also criticized the jail authorities and claimed that such cruelty did not happen with prisoners of war in dictatorial times.

“Despite the court orders, Haleem Adil Sheikh was not given medical facilities in the jail. He had an infection in his leg. Today, he underwent an operation and he is fine now. Such cruelty does not happen with prisoners of war and even in dictatorial times,” Imran Ismail tweeted.

Haleem Adil Sheikh alleges torture

Earlier, Haleem Adil Sheikh alleged that he was tortured by the Sindh police during custody. PTI, on its official Twitter account, shared a video of Sheikh, who could be heard saying that he was strangled and even showed a small wound on his shin, which he claimed was swollen.

PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly condemned the alleged torture.“Pakistan is in the grip of a bunch of criminals. These mafias know they will meet their political end in the elections,” he said.

Haleem Adil Sheikh was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment, Sindh (ACE) in a property transfer case on July 27 from Jamshoro. He was booked by the Anti-Encroachment Force (AEF) on a charge of illegally occupying 25 acres of state land in Scheme 33. He was arrested in the case from outside the Karachi central prison minutes after he was released on bail in a terrorism case on August 29.
