Haleem Adil Sheikh accuses Sindh Police of torture

Haleem Adil Sheikh claimed he was not given any food to eat and was also not given any medical attention for the infection on his leg.

PTI’s leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has accused the Sindh Police of torture. A video of Haleem Adil Sheikh, who looks worse for wear, is making the rounds on social media.

According to the details, Haleem Adil Sheikh claimed that he was kept in a jail cell reserved for terrorists for 10 days. He was not given any food to eat and was also not given any medical attention for the infection on his leg as a result of torture.

“They didn’t give me a single thing to eat for two days. I am not a terrorist but was isolated in the terrorists’ cell for 10 days,” Haleem Adil Sheikh said in the video while showing a bruise on his leg.

“The investigation officer tortured me, strangulated me now. I have a rod stuck in my leg, and that leg was hurt. Am I a killer, robber, terrorist?” Haleem Adil Sheikh asked.

The alleged torture of Haleem Adil Sheikh has sparked backlash for the Sindh government and police authorities. Important to note that another PTI leader, Shahbaz Gill, has claimed torture while he was in Islamabad police’s custody. Shahbaz Gill claimed that he was beaten and even sexually assaulted. Therefore, the recent claims by Haleem Adil Sheikh is resulting in intense criticism for police authorities.

“This is Sindh Opposition Leader Haleem Adil Sheikh today after being tortured by Sindh police at the behest of the Zardari mafia. His daughter informs that he was strangled by one of the officers and his leg has an infection now, needs to be treated,” PTI leader and former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari tweeted while reacting to claims of Haleem Adil Sheikh’s alleged torture.

Charges against Haleem Adil Sheikh

Haleem Adil Sheikh was taken into custody by the Anti-Encroachment Force (AEF) minutes after he was released on bail by prison authorities in a terrorism case.

His arrest took place as soon as he came out of the Karachi central prison. AEF officials were waiting for him outside the prison, whisking him away.

He was later shifted to the Anti-Encroachment police station and shown arrested in another land-grab case. Pertinent to mention that Sheikh has been under arrest for over a month for allegedly grabbing 25 acres of government land.
