Indian celebrities troll Afridi over Kashmir tweet

Indians in large numbers are bashing Shahid Afridi for the pro-Kashmir tweets.  Shahid Afridi’s tweet attracted a wildfire of criticism from Indians including media personalities, cricketers, and commoners that unanimously targeted Shahid Afridi with their derogatory and harsh comments.

Irked by his tweets of condemnation of Indian forces, Shahid Afridi became the central topic of discussion in Indian Talk shows yesterday.

Also, celebrities like cricketer Gautam Gambhir and lyricist Javed Akhtar bashed Shahid Afridi for his standing on Kashmir issue. They in their tweets accused Pakistan of spreading ‘terrorism’ and fuelling the insurgent movements in disputed Kashmir.

On Monday, Shahid Afridi expressed his concerns over the worsening political conditions in Indian occupied Kashmir. He condemned the clampdown of Indian forces in a search operation that left 20 Kashmiris dead and more than 200 injured.

The fierce clashes between the people and forces also led to the deaths of three Indian soldiers as people in large numbers came out on streets to protest against the Indian forces. The military then cordoned off the areas and disconnected the mobile and Internet services.

ShahidAfridi in another tweet urged the humanitarian international agencies including United Nations for intervention to stop the brutality of the Indian government in Indian-held Kashmir.

As Indians went into the frenzy, his Twitter was subjected to harsh remarks. Former skipper Shahid Afridi responded to the backlash with calm. In his tweet, he said that he respects the love he has received from Indians but humanity demands condemnation of the brutality upon innocent Kashmiris.

However,ShahidAfridi fans rallied in to defend their star cricketer on Twitter including the head of Inter-Services Public Relations AsifGhafoor. DG ISPR Asif Ghafoor from his personal account on Twitter responded to Gautam Gambhir’s tweet with a clip from Asia Cup in which Shahid Afridi’s sixes on the last ball of the match defeated India.
