Indian doctor in UK found guilty in 115 sexual offences cases

Indian doctor in the UK has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on guilty of 115 sexual offences. UK court awarded him two life sentences in addition to three which he was already serving in the offence of sexually assaulting 28 women over a period of four years.

Manish Shah, 53, was awarded two life terms with a minimum of ten years after he was found guilty in a trial last month in 25 incidents of sexually assaulting women at his clinic in East London over four years. He was already serving for 90 previous sexual offenses. The women assaulted by him aged between 15 and 34.

The trial heard that Shah used high-profile cases of celebrities to persuade female patients to undergo intimate examinations for his sexual satisfaction over four years from 2009.

Victim impact statements were read out in court. The young victim told that Shah called him his favorite and said her that she would do well in modeling and also warned her that she might get cancer. The statement read that Shah’s actions “have haunted me for 12 years, affecting very important years of my growth from youth to womanhood”. She added that before the incident she was a ‘confident’ and ‘young girl’.

Another victim, abused at the age of 34, said, “He just put me through more and more trauma. He preyed on the vulnerable. “I want to move on with my life, and have a good life, not the life I currently live.”

Adding that Shah’s failure to admit his wrongdoings made things worse. Sentencing him to imprisonment, Judge Peter Rook said Shah remained a danger to women and his behavior caused “long-term psychological damage” to his victims. He has been convicted of 10 years imprisonment that will be running concurrently with the earlier sentences.
