Iran attacks Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar in retaliation to US airstrikes on its port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday night. US military claims to have launched fresh strikes on Iran aimed at keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for traffic. The second wave of overnight strikes was launched after US President Donald Trump said an interim agreement to try to end the war was over. Trump said the strikes were in retribution for Tuesday’s assault by Iran on three partnership ships transiting the strait.
Hours later, Iran said that it had attacked US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to the new US strikes on its infrastructure, including its port city in Bandar Abbas. Iran claims to have attacked in Bahrain, as well as hitting targets in Qatar and Kuwait as well.
The Iran government claims that the death toll from the two days of US strikes has reached to 14. On the other hand, Kuwait’s defense ministry also issued a statement warning residents not to approach sharpnel from what it called interception operations. All the three Gulf countries, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, have confirmed that Iran attacked its infrastructure and host US military assets and US military sites. Meanwhile, Iran’s state railway said on Thursday that overnight US strikes hit a section of the railway line from Tehran to the northeastern city of Mashhad.
