Islamabad installs ‘Smart traffic system’ for better monitoring

Traffic has been bad in Pakistan since as long as one can remember – a lot of overpopulation and desi road rage to blame. This further leads to a lot of mismanaged traffic and people buying of the traffic police officials.

In order to improve, better manage and monitor traffic in Islamabad, the Islamabad Traffic Police is working on smart traffic management. Islamabad Traffic Police is working to install a smart signal system at the Kashmir Highway. These smart signals will replace the traditional traffic signals. In order to carry out the process, they have invited bids.

What is Smart Traffic Signal System?

Capital Development Authority (CDA) came up with this great initiative of installing a Smart system. This automated system comprises of “Smart Optical Sensors” that have the ability to detect the volume of traffic at any given time to adjust the timings of signals accordingly.

This system has an ability to give real-time data to its users and let the operators figure out all the flaws and inefficiencies in traffic system. Overall, it makes the authorities capable of taking better and well-informed decisions.

CDA issued tenders for the project following meeting the codal formalities. The project will be conducted within a month and it will cost Rs. 2.48 million, as per the reports.

The smart system will be installed at G-7 to G-11 Kashmir Highway signals including the Kashmir Highway junction at the 7th Avenue, G-9, G-10, H-11, and G-11, in the first phase. These new signals with optical sensors will have timed lights that will change their durations as per the traffic volume.

With the help of the sensors, these signals will change the timing automatically after the traffic volume is processed. This will ultimately lead to a decline in controlling the traffic manually. It will help thousands of people using the highway – and will speed up and smooth the traffic flows.

Kashmir Highway will have the new signals in the first phase and then in further stages, all other major thoroughfares will have the new signals.  Multiple steps have been taken by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for ensuring a smooth traffic flow. This includes a smart signal project as well to revamp and broaden the road infrastructure.

CDA issued tenders for the project following meeting the codal formalities. The project will be conducted within a month and it will cost Rs. 2.48 million, as per the reports.

Many say that all the major housing schemes on Kashmir Highway or near Kashmir Highway are now expected to have a great edge over their competitors. Who would not like to invest in an area where the traffic is well-managed and runs according to the international standards?
