Kashmiris come together to Commemorate 88th Youm-e-Shuhada Day

Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control are commemorating the 88th Kashmir Shuhada Day on July 13th, 2019. On this day the residents of IOK and AJ&K have renewed their pledge to continue to fight against the atrocities of Indian forces until liberation.

The day is marked to pay homage to the 22 valiant sons of the soil, who laid the foundation of struggle for freedom, killed in the line of fire by the forces of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh in front of Sri Nagar jail on 13th July 1931. The 22 people were laid to rest in the shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Naqshband Sahab (RA) at Khajwabazar.

A large number of people gathered outside the prison to protest against the trial of Abdul Qadeer for treason by the Dogra regime.

In Jammu and Kashmir, there are many role models like Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, who was popular in Kashmir and Maharaja Hari Singh was famous in Jammu region.

Seminars and symposiums will be held to highlight the significance of the sacrifices made by the martyrs, followed by protest and rallies, marchers will protest against the unlawful occupation of the land by Indian forces for more than six decades. Public meetings will also be held in major cities including Mirpur, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sudhanoti, Bhimbher and Neelam valley. A public holiday will be observed in Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, senior National Conference leader Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan on Saturday visited Mazar-e-Shuhada at Handwara and offered Fateha and paid floral tributes to the 13th July 1931 martyrs.

On this occasion, Chaudhary Ramzan urged people to rise above themselves and help towards creating a tolerant alliance where everyone can flourish in a free democratic society.

Except for BJP almost every other political party is observing the Kashmir Martyr Day and lay floral tributes on the graves of the Shuhada.

Instead, BJP’s spokesperson Altaf Thakur stated, “In Jammu and Kashmir, there are many role models like Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, who was popular in Kashmir and Maharaja Hari Singh was famous in Jammu region.”
