The highly anticipated Lux Style Awards’ nominees have been announced for 2018.
The award ceremony credits the best work with appreciation in the television and the film industry of Pakistan. The awards have been a yearly ritual to recognize some of the phenomenal work produced each year in the industry.
The list of nominations seems a bit flawed, as according to the general consensus there were far better dramas that deserved to be nominated. The nominations for best TV drama include: ‘Alif Allah aur Insan’, ‘Muqabil’, ‘Rungreza’, ‘Sammi’ and ‘Baaghi’.
Just having an award show that recognizes artistic excellence is a huge development for the Pakistani entertainment industry and will surely encourage superior work in the future.
Nominations for best television actor includes Adnan Siddiqui for ‘Sammi’ Ahad Raza Mir for ‘Yakeen Ka Safar’, Imran Abbas for ‘Khuda Aur Mohabbat 2, Mohsin Abbas for ‘Muqabil’ and Noman Ijaz for ‘Pinjari’.

The list of best TV actress includes Bushra Ansari for ‘Seeta Bagri’, Kubra Khan for ‘Muqabil’, Saba Qamar for ‘Baaghi’ Sajal Aly for ‘Yakeen Ka Safar’ and Sajal Aly for ‘O Rungreza’.
Nominations for best television writer includes Mustafa Afridi for ‘Sang-e-mar Mar, ‘Noor ul Huda Shah for ‘Sammi’, Qaisara Hayat for ‘Alif Allah Aur Insaan’, Saji Gul for ‘O Rungreza’, Zafar Mairaj for ‘Muqabil’.
Moreover, instead of placing Ahad Raza Mir in the list of best TV actor he deserved to be honoured for a promising newcomer in the industry.
Nominations for best original soundtrack include: Adnan Dhool and Sana Zulfiqar for ‘Bay Khudi’, Ali Azmat for ‘Rasm-e-Duniya’, Jimmy Khan for ‘Tumharey Hain’, Nabeel Shaukat for ‘Woh Ek Pal’ Richi Robinson for ‘Shayad’.
So far, the nominations suggest that some phenomenal artwork in the Pakistani entertainment industry may not be recognized and celebrated. For instance, the popular soundtrack of ‘Sun Yaara’ from Ary Digital deserved to be included in the list of nominations.

Also, it is felt that a separate category should be introduced to honour some of the artists that displayed extraordinary performances. Moreover, instead of placing Ahad Raza Mir in the list of best TV actor he deserved to be honoured for a promising newcomer in the industry.

‘Muhabbat Tum se Nafrat Hai’ from Geo Tv should have been included in the list of the best TV play as well.

The Lux Style Awards have been an increasingly popular award show in Pakistan and are considered one of the most important entertainment events of the year. Excluding so many great TV and cinematic pieces is almost a tragedy. That being said, just having an award show that recognizes artistic excellence is a huge development for the Pakistani entertainment industry and will surely encourage superior work in the future.
