Nation in uproar over Peshawar mosque suicide blast

The horrific suicide blast has triggered strong condemnations from the public, including political figures from major political parties.

The Peshawar mosque suicide blast has sent Pakistani into an uproar. Strong condemnations are pouring in as the nation reacts to the suicide blast which killed 25 and injured over 100.

Monday, a blast was reported inside a mosque in the Police Lines, Peshawar. According to security officials, the suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, injuring dozens of faithful offering Zuhr prayers.

The horrific suicide blast has triggered strong condemnations from the public, including political figures from major political parties. Meanwhile, the public fears that Pakistan is once again witnessing a resurgence of terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast, adding that the blast inside a mosque proves that those involved in the attack have “nothing to do with Islam.”

“These terrorists are trying to instill fear by targeting those who perform the duty of defending Pakistan,” he said, assuring the people that the coalition government will take strict action against those involved.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, condemning the incident, said that strict action will be taken against the terrorists, their backers, and facilitators. Terror incidents before general and by-elections are “meaningful”, he added. Former president and PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident, saying that the terrorists being active in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is “extremely dangerous”.

PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan too condemned the Peshawar suicide blast and extended his prayers and condolences go to the victims’ families.

“Strongly condemn the terrorist suicide attack in police lines mosque Peshawar during prayers. My prayers and condolences go to the victims’ families. It is imperative we improve our intelligence gathering & properly equip our police forces to combat the growing threat of terrorism,” Imran Khan said.
