“When I go back to Pakistan, I’m going to take back the air conditioner and television from Nawaz Sharif”, Khan told the crowd.

Prime Minister Imran Khan looked in an aggressive mood against the opposition as he addressed a mammoth gathering of overseas Pakistanis in Washington DC. PM Khan told the gathering that he will not let the former ruling parties, who are now in opposition, off the hook easily.

“Maulana Fazlur Rehman keeps asking whether the opposition will only come together when they are jailed, I say yes Maulana sahib you will all be united in jail”, Khan told a jam packed Capital One Arena with a smile on his face.

PM Khan is on a three day visit of Washington, where he is also set to meet President Donald Trump.

However, the opposition seemed to be the main target of PM Khan’s speech. He criticized former PM Nawaz Sharif who is in Kot Lakhpat Jail for asking for too many facilities in jail.

“When I go back to Pakistan, I’m going to take back the air conditioner and television from Nawaz Sharif”, Khan told the crowd. He added the Nawaz has been sent to jail for punishment, and cannot be enjoying better living standards than most people of the country.

Taking another jibe at the recently arrested opposition politician Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Khan said that Abbasi kept saying he should be arrested if he had done anything wrong. But now that he was arrested, the opposition was criticizing it.

“Today what is happening in Pakistan, is the formation of Naya Pakistan — these people had never been asked for answers before.” Khan said referring to the arrest of opposition leaders.

The organizer of the event said that the Capital One Arena can accommodate around 20,000 people and Imran Khan’s presence had ensured a full house.

PM Imran was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, and Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari.

The attacks on opposition did not stop even when PM Khan started speaking on the topic of meeting President Trump. After asking the crowd what he should talk about with Trump, to loud cheers Khan said, “I’ve brought some parchis in my pocket, I’m going to read from them”, he said referring to PM Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with President Obama in 2013 where the former read points of a piece of paper.
