Pakistan and Azerbaijan air force chiefs vow to strengthen defense ties

Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan called on Commander of Azerbaijan Air Force Lt Gen Ramiz Tahirov in Baku to discuss expansion of air force ties and strengthen defense cooperation, military training.

Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force Air (PAF) Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan called on Commander Azerbijan Air Force, Lieutenant General Ramiz Tahirov.

The Air Chief praised the professionalism of Azerbaijan Air Force and assured his counterpart of PAF’s full support; especially in the domain of training, said a PAF press release received here.

Commander Azerbaijan Air Force commended the high standards of the PAF training system and acknowledged its support towards training of Azeri Air Force personnel. He also lauded the indigenisation efforts undertaken by PAF; especially the JF-17 programme.

Later in the day, the Air Chief also met with Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan Colonel General Zakir Hasanov.

Matters related to mutual interests were discussed with a consensus to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation. Earlier, the Air Chief also visited the Martyrs’ Alley and laid the floral wreath.

Pakistan Armed Forces fully support Azerbaijan

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Nadeem Raza said last month that his forces fully support Azerbaijan’s position in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Alizada met with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Nadeem Raza at the Joint Staff Headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi to discuss matters of bilateral interest and regional security, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) — the Pakistan army’s media wing.

The military chief reaffirmed the brotherly relationship between the two countries and said it is built on strong foundations.

Azerbaijan’s ambassador thanks Pakistan for its support

“CJCSC [Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee] said that Pakistan Armed Forces fully support Azerbaijan’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in line with the several unanimously adopted United Nations Security Council resolutions,” according to ISPR.

The ambassador thanked Raza for Pakistan’s support for the just cause of Azerbaijan.

“Pleased to call on General Nadeem Raza, the Chairman JCSC of Pakistan & discuss the ways of further strengthening bilateral #military relations between our brotherly countries,” he tweeted following the meeting.

Last month, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry refuted Indian media reports that Pakistan is fighting alongside Azerbaijani forces against Armenia in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and termed the reports “irresponsible, speculative, and baseless.”

The ministry also said it supports Azerbaijan’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in line with the several unanimously adopted UN Security Council resolutions.
