Pakistan to celebrate International Biryani Festival annually

News Desk |

The Sindh Government has announced to celebrate International Biryani Festival each year. Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf’s Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail made the announcement. The Governor House Sindh will host the festival every year.

The decision was made at a lunch gathering with Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) on Thursday. The festival will be organized to expand the rice exports of Pakistan. Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said that the government will help increase rice exports to $4 billion. The Governor Sindh added that President of Pakistan Arif Alvi will inaugurate the festival to be held in Karachi.

The former Chairperson REAP Abdur Raheem Janoo informed the gathering that in a worrisome trend the rice exports of Pakistan to China has fallen to 7000 tons from 30,000 tons at one point.

“Such fiestas will be held every year and the upcoming festival will be given the status of an International festival,” the governor said while addressing in a lunch ceremony.

Ismail said the government of Tehreek-I-Insaf is seeking to give special concession to every export commodity to uplift the exports that will in return bring the foreign exchange for the country. He also admitted the fact that rice export industry has been immensely supporting the economy of Pakistan.

“Currently rice exports are at $2 bn, while the REAP has set a target of $4 bn,” the governor said. “People are right about us being inexperienced in corruption,” he said. “But we want to bring Pakistan out of debt,” he added.  “We want to see economic activities flourishing in Pakistan”, said Imran Ismail.

He said that International Biryani Festival has excavated positive results for the rice exporters earlier. “Rice exports had increased when REAP organized Biryani Festivals in 14 countries,” he said.
