Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to extend the role of Shahid Afridi in the selection committee till the World Cup 2023. The next ICC ODI Men’s World Cup 2023 is scheduled in India this year.
According to reports, PCB is planning to extend its role as the chief selector of the men’s selection committee. He is currently serving as the interim chief selection for the series against New Zealand. New PCB Chairman Najam Sethi had appointed him.
“I feel honored to have been assigned this responsibility by the PCB Management Committee and will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling this responsibility to the best of my abilities,” Afridi said after his appointment.
“We need to get back to our winning ways and I have no doubts that through meritocratic and strategic selection decisions, we will help the national side to perform strongly in the series against New Zealand and reclaim the confidence of our fans,” he added.
Shahid Afridi in his media talk said that his aim is to prepare the team and players for the upcoming world cup. He said he wants to prepare two teams for workload management and to help the captain Babar Azam select the best players for the upcoming World Cup 2023.

The selection committee also includes Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum, while Haroon Rashid (member Management Committee) is the convener.
Reports are that PCB is looking to hire Micky Arthur as the head coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team. He is likely to arrive in Pakistan in the next few weeks.
Umar Gul is also a strong contender for becoming the bowling coach for Pakistan. His contract with the Afghanistan team has ended.
Contracts of the coach Saqlain Mushtaq and bowling coach Shaun Tait are ending on February 3rd, 2023. Pakistan is currently playing the ODI series against New Zealand.
