Plea to extend Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand rejected – PTI hails verdict

PTI leaders are celebrating the legal victory and appreciating the verdict. Separately, the post-arrest bail of Fawad Chaudhry in the sedition case has also been filed.

In a major development, the court of district and sessions judge has rejected the police’s plea for PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand in a case related to using ‘threatening language’ against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members.

According to the details, the court on Wednesday night had granted police an initial two-day physical remand of Fawad Chaudhry, hours after he was arrested. Today, the ECP’s plea for an extension to Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand was heard in the courtroom of Judge Raja Waqas Ahmed.

Following the conclusion of the arguments, the judge approved Fawad’s request to have his handcuffs removed inside the court and also reserved its verdict on the issue of remand extension. Later, in its verdict, the court sent Fawad to judicial remand instead of physical remand.

PTI leaders are celebrating this as a legal victory and appreciating the verdict. Separately, the post-arrest bail of Fawad Chaudhry in the sedition case has also been filed.

“Physical remand request of Fawad Chaudhry rejected. Applying for bail. Congratulations to the nation. This judgment shows that the justice system in this country is not completely frozen yet. We know that the night of tyranny has just begun. But Imran Khan’s soldiers are ready,” PTI’s Additional Secretary for Information Hassan Khawar said.

“Some sanity has prevailed and remand was rejected. However, bail should be immediate as there is zero risk. This entire arrest was illegal and the case put together is becoming funnier by the day. I feel sorry for the prosecutors, no amount of money or pressure can make sense of this,” Former SAPM Zulfi Bukhari said.

“Thankfully, Fawad’s remand request was rejected. Yesterday a channel presented my statement with a twist. I said that the way the state treated me as a stepchild, may God not do it to Fawad,” Shahbaz Gill said, who also recounted his time in custody, and said that Fawad Chaudhry is a political prisoner and should be treated like one.
