PM Khan ensures safe exit of staff before him as fire erupts in office

Prime Minister Imran Khan ensured the safe exit of his staff before him as the Prime Minister office at the sixth floor of the building caught fire. He ordered the safe exit of the staff after knowing the fire eruption while continued to chair the meeting despite the emergency.

The sources say the fire erupted on the sixth floor and reached the fifth floor after a short circuit. Only after ensuring that the entire staff had been taken out he left for Bani Gala residence. As per the fire extinguishing team, no casualties had been reported in the incident.

The fire was bought under control due to the timely action taken by fire extinguishing squad with the equipment available at the PM office.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was reportedly one floor below in a meeting with the incoming CENTCOM chief General Kenneth F McKenzie when the fire broke out. The entire staff including Prime Minister remained safe and unhurt in the incident.

“Fire broke out owing to a short circuit in one specific area of the PM Secretariat,” a PM House spokesperson said. The fire was bought under control due to the timely action taken by fire extinguishing squad with the equipment available at the PM office.

“We will be able to provide further information after a complete investigation of the incident,” the spokesperson added further, saying they could not yet comment with certainty on the cause of the fire.

While speaking to media the spokesperson of the PM office said that so far they have no idea of the burning of any important documents in the incident.

Certain commentators on social media have speculated if the incident was a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of the people from the major economic crisis while others have raised questions over the quality of work done by PWD and CDA in such important public offices and buildings.
