Princess Diana considered embracing Islam to marry her love

Royal photographer, Anwer Hussein, said Diana asked him about interfaith marriage and conversion to Islam during a long flight in the mid-nineties. He said that Diana had with him a hushed conversation regarding Islam.

Royal photographer, Anwer Hussein, reveals that the late Princess Diana considered converting to Islam. Hussein said, Diana, asked him about religion and interfaith marriage.

The photographer said Diana asked him about interfaith marriage and conversion to Islam during a long flight in the mid-nineties. He said that Diana had with him a hushed conversation regarding Islam and how the interfaith marriage between a Protestant and Muslim will work.

At that time, Diana was dating a Pakistani-Muslim doctor, Hasnat Khan. She later met Dodi Fayed who was also a Muslim.

Hussein, in an interview, recalled: ‘All the lights were dimmed on the flight, and she came and whispered, ‘Can I have a chat?’.

‘She knew that I was married to an English girl, Caroline. She wanted to know about Islam. She was asking about being married when one person is Muslim and another is Protestant.’

He added: ‘She was interested because of what she was going through with [her then-boyfriend] Dr. Hasnat Khan. She didn’t mention him, but she assumed I knew it. I think she was wondering how the family would react to him and things like that.’

Princess Dian’s relationship with Hasnat Khan

Princess Diana had dated Hasnat Khan from 1995 to 1997. During this time, she met his family several times and even intended to embrace Islam with plans of marrying him. Their affair ended in the early summer of 1997. Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31 of that year.

Diana was in distress when Khan ended their relationship. She met the Khan’s family during her trip to Pakistan in 1996. She wore a traditional Kameez Shalwar.

Her friend, Jemima Goldsmith, former wife of PM Imran Khan had revealed that at one point Princess Diana was considering moving to Pakistan with Hasnat Khan. According to Jemima, the surgeon hated being in the limelight after being associated with Princess Diana.
