PTI nominates Mahmood Khan Achakzai for Presidential post

Mahmood Khan Achakzai from Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party accepted the request and submitted his papers for the election. The election of the President will take place on 9th March 2024.

In a surprising turn of events, PTI-SIC has backed Mahmood Khan Achakzai in the presidential race against PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai from Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party accepted the request and submitted his papers for the election. The election of the President will take place on 9th March 2024. Asif Ali Zardari is the Presidential candidate of coalition government.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai is likely to get support from all the opposition parties. He also reached out to JUI-F’s Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman to seek his support for the coveted Presidential race.  Achakzai will also contact other opposition parties for the vote. Fazl-ur-Rehman despite several efforts made by PMLN to appease him to join the government, however, he has decided to sit in the opposition.

Farooq H Naek submitted the papers of Asif Ali Zardari to the Election Commission of Pakistan. The official in charge of overseeing the nomination process will review the submitted candidacy papers on March 4th at 10:00 am. The confirmed list of individuals running for the presidential elections will then be publicly announced on March 5th at 1:00 pm.

Whereas, the new Prime Minister of Pakistan will be elected tomorrow. PTI-SIC-backed candidate Omar Ayub will be contesting against PMLN-PPP-backed Shehbaz Sharif. Following a thorough examination, Ayaz Sadiq, the recently elected Speaker of the National Assembly, has given his approval to the nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif and Omar Ayub Khan for the upcoming prime ministerial election.

Ishaq Dar, Hanif Abbasi, and Khursheed Shah acted as representatives for Shehbaz Sharif, submitting his documents for the upcoming election. Seven Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) have proposed his candidacy, while seven others have seconded it.

In the case of Omar Ayub Khan, MNAs Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Riaz Khan Fatyana, and Umair Khan Niazi proposed his nomination, with support from MNAs Mohammad Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, Ali Khan Jadoon, Mujahid Ali, and Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar.
