Qatar FIFA World Cup has been declared the best World Cup of the Century in the poll conducted by BBC Sports. According to the details, 78% of the people voted for the recently concluded FIFA World Cup held in Qatar as the best world cup.
The poll included the FIFA world cups held in Japan/Korea (2002), Germany (2006), South Africa (2010), Brazil (2014), Russia (2018), and Qatar (2022). 78% voted for Qatar, 6% voted for Japan/Korea, 4% voted for Germany, 3% voted for South Africa, 5% voted for Brazil and 4% voted for Russia.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the Qatar FIFA World Cup because of the diversity and inclusion of the game. “Many people from around the world have come to Qatar and have discovered the Arab world, which they didn’t know or they knew only for what was portrayed to them,” the FIFA boss told reporters.
Qatar FIFA World Cup started with a lot of controversy and backlash from some European and western countries. These countries accused Qatar of human rights violations and also of imposing cultural restrictions on the football fans coming to Qatar.
By the end of the FIFA World Cup, Qatar heaped plenty of praise from across the world for pulling off a successful football event for the first time. Fans believe Qatar has been the trendsetter in bringing sports events to the Middle East and also conducting the event according to indigenous laws and cultural values.
Qatar also heaped praise from fellow Muslim countries for promoting Islamic values on the sidelines of the FIFA World Cup. Most importantly, the Palestinian cause took the center stage in the FIFA World Cup. Qatar event topped the FIFA World Cup-related Google searches in the ongoing year. Saudi Arabia is also now eyeing to host sports events in the country.
