Saba Qamar gets a Filmfare nomination for ‘Hindi Medium’

News Desk |

Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has been nominated for the ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ award at the illustrious Filmfare Awards for her Bollywood debut film ‘Hindi Medium’. This was one of the most well-received movies of 2017 where both Saba Qamar and her co-star Irrfan Khan performed brilliantly.

The actress has some tough competition in this category. Besides her, Sri Devi (Mom), Vidya Balan (Tumhari Sallu), Alia Bhatt (Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya), Bhumi Pednekar (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan) and Zaira Waseem (Secret Superstar) have all been nominated.

Previously, other celebrities from Pakistan including Nazia Hassan and Fawad Khan have won Filmfare awards for Best Singer and Best Debut Male respectively.

Also, Pakistani singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam, Qurat ul Ain Baloch, and Shafqat Amanat Ali have been nominated multiple times at Indian award shoes without any wins.

The 63rd Filmfare Award ceremony will be held on 20th January 2018. Saba Qamar expressed her excitement for this Filmfare nomination since she is the only Pakistani to be nominated this year.

‘I am very happy on being nominated in the category of Best Actress in Filmfare Awards. I am glad that people in both India and Pakistan loved the film and praised my acting. It was fun working with Irrfan Khan who is a fabulous co-star and also a fellow nominee (smiles).’

‘Hindi Medium’ managed to get a place in five nominations including ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director’; Saba Qamar is currently playing the controversial Qandeel Baloch in her ongoing serial ‘Baaghi’.

However, this is not all for Saba Qamar, as the revised nomination of the Lux Style Awards states the actress is nominated in the category of best actress for ‘Baaghi’ as well.

She has brought her fine skills of acting to both the television and silver screen. Saba Qamar also won Best Breakthrough at Masala Awards late last year for her smashing entry into Bollywood.

A win at the Filmfare Awards would really cement her place as one of the best actresses in South Asia right now.Â
