It was easy to tell that Sanju was going to be big even before the film released on 29th June. The film’s teaser, in a very short time, became the highest viewed Hindi teaser of all-time scoring more than 30 million views in its first day. And given the film’s star studded cast and positive critical reception, not to mention the story itself, Sanju has drawn audiences from far and beyond.
The film has gone on to break records and set new ones and if the box office collection of the film in so far as any indication, Sanju will most likely go down in history books as among the highest grossing Indian films of all time. Already the highest grossing film of 2018, leaving behind Deepika Padukone’s Paadmavat, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer earned 1.2 billion Indian rupees in just three days.
Not only that the film had the biggest advance booking of 2018. It also gathered the most money for a film in a single day beating the fantasy epic “Baahalbali 2’s” record. It also earned the highest second day collection in Indian film history. Analysts claim that the film’s single day collections are on par with the weekend grosses of most film which makes Sanju’s huge numbers all the more impressive.

The film has surpassed the Salman Khan Eid release “Race 3” in just 6 days, proving just how huge Rajkumar Hirani’s, Sanjay Dutt biopic is. The film is also being credited for resurrecting its lead actor Ranbir Kapoor’s career who had been on a downfall with a string of box office flops recently.
Overseas the film has been just as mighty. Debuting at number 8 at the US box office it beat the box office collections of Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story in its respective week.
