Sheikh Rashid smokes cigar with Chinese ambassador in viral photo

An image of Sheikh Rashid smoking a cigar with Chinese ambassador Nong Rong is gaining attraction on social media. The picture was taken during the meeting between two state officials on Sunday.

A picture of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed smoking a cigar with Chinese ambassador Nong Rong has been making the rounds on social media.

The picture shows Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid sitting with Chinese ambassador Nong Rong. The Chinese ambassador is seen dressed in the local dress of shalwar Kameez. According to the meeting, Sheikh Rashid gave a cigar to the Chinese ambassador.

Sheikh Rashid is known for smoking cigars. Meanwhile, Chinese ambassador Nong Rong, who took charge in September 2020, is popular for dressing in the local dress of shalwar kameez.

The picture was taken during the meeting between two state officials on Sunday. The picture has been garnering attention on social media. Chinese ambassador had taken up the issue of security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

The meeting was held a few days after a suicide attack on the motorcade carrying Chinese nationals in Gwadar, Balochistan. The blast had claimed the lives of three Pakistani children and had injured one Chinese national.

Earlier this month, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying had said that China and Pakistan will cooperate to bring the culprits of the Dasu terror attack to justice. She was reacting, in a Beijing briefing, to the detailed report, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister presented on the terror attack. The report concludes that the Indian Intelligence agency, RAW, and Afghan agency, NDS, appear to be behind the terror attack that killed nine Chinese and four Pakistanis in July.

Hua Chunying also said that both countries will keep strengthening security cooperation mechanisms to ensure the safety of Chinese projects, people, and institutions in Pakistan, as Pakistan’s Foreign Minister revealed on Wednesday that Afghanistan’s NDS and Indian RAW appear to be behind the Dasu attack.

It must be mentioned that in the terrorist attack in Dasu on 14 July 2021, at least 13 people – nine Chinese nationals and four Pakistanis – were killed and more than two dozen others wounded when a shuttle bus they were traveling in plunged into a deep ravine after an explosion near it.
