Symbol setback for PTI spurs innovative social media campaign

The Election Commission of Pakistan is facing backlash from social media users for allowing bizarre and in some cases disrespectful signs and symbols to the candidates.

After losing the bat symbol from the SC, PTI now gathers support from social media for its election campaign.

Candidates of PTI have been given different symbols. The party has taken to Twitter and has created a separate website for people to check the symbols of PTI-backed candidates from their constituency.

The former ruling party, now ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), announced the creation of a candidate and symbol search portal, eagerly awaiting candidate data to go live, as conveyed in a tweet with a video demonstration. #ChallengeAccepted.

In a tweet, they said, “See the video below showing a search for ‘NA-1’ and the results with candidate name and symbol. We are just waiting for data for each candidate before we go live!.”

Regarding the portal, Raof Hassan, the Information Secretary of PTI says the portal will be functional within two days.

“There will be two separate portals for the National and provincial assemblies. We will share the links of these portals through social media sites and our voters will be able to identify the national and provincial assembly candidates backed by the PTI for their constituencies,”  he said while speaking to a local media outlet.

The SC decision left and followers of PTI upset, initially. However, they have taken to social media and are expressing passion and vigor to support their respective candidates. The X is brimming with hilarious tweets, slogans, and messages from the election campaign.
